global players
To highlight Nedscaper's unique entrepreneurial story, founder and CEO Thomas Verwer was invited to radio program World Players on BNR. Thomas is no stranger to sharing Nedscaper's success story and is an expert in public speaking. But because World Players is a live radio segment, he was eager to prepare himself for the uncertainties it brings. For example, what do you say when asked about geopolitical tensions or some other sensitive topic unrelated to your message? To anticipate this, Thomas sought contact with nxt agency.
media training
Nedscaper and nxt are no strangers to each other. Previously, nxt agency helped them with two public relations projects. As a result, Thomas immediately knew who to turn to for media training that would prepare him for the "what ifs" of live radio. He also wanted tips on building his story and advice on how to get the core message across as clearly as possible. Because when you're a thought leader in the cybersecurity industry, you want to share that effectively!
During training, Thomas and Remi anticipated possible questions that Thomas would rather avoid. "When I came out of the training, I was proverbially beaten black and blue," Thomas says with a laugh. He says he was shocked at how journalists sometimes try to pull information out of people. "And that's good huh, to prep for 'the worst-case scenario.' It helped me a lot to have a bit thicker skin in the studio at BNR."
body language
In addition, Thomas and Remi focused on tomorrow's story. What do you want to convey and how do you make sure your story comes across well? The answer, perhaps surprisingly, is body language. Thomas noticed that body language plays a big role in conveying a strong story. "You kind of show your cards with your posture anyway," he said. That's why Thomas and Remi practiced with different scenarios during media training. "In a seated interview, you're more likely to have an interrogative feel and move your hands more. When we went into a standing prep session, it was very different. Then you move more freely again," Thomas says.
well prepared
How he ended up experiencing the interview? "On the one hand, I did think it was very low-key and a chill, good vibe there. On the other hand, I didn't expect it to be such a big editorial team. In that respect, it's kind of important to show up well prepared." Thomas says he has a smooth talk, but that media training preparation was no luxury.
