From an early age, Selin knew that working with people gave her energy. In 2021, she started at Corendon in Badhoevedorp, where she dealt with a wide variety of situations daily at the front office desk. There, she learned to listen, adapt, and act quickly. That experience now forms the foundation of her work as an office manager.
The accident that changed everything
A year later, in 2022, Selin broke her knee in a single-vehicle accident. Following the accident, she went through a difficult period of intense pain and multiple surgeries, and she had to learn to walk again—several times over. The pain is much less these days. She decided to pursue an office job because her knee remains sensitive. “You become very grateful for your life. When you break your knee, you literally cannot walk. You only then realize how healthy you actually are, and it really puts your life into perspective,” she says with a nod.
During her recovery, Selin was completely dependent on the care of others. For a long time, she couldn't even shower independently, so her mother, friends, and then-boyfriend were a huge support. She is naturally caring herself, and having been on the other side during this period made her realize even more how valuable it is to be there for someone when they need it.
The road back to work
After her recovery period, Selin started as an office assistant at Robidus in Zaandam. It was the first organization to give her a chance after her knee accident. She was completely open about her situation from the start, which was highly appreciated by her manager at the time. Selin learned a lot at Robidus and laid the foundation for the professional she is now at nxt. At the same time, she discovered that she still wanted to grow, for example, in learning how to delegate. She is naturally used to being hands-on, but she is still learning more about this every day.
Selin is a true person of intuition; if something doesn't feel right, she won't do it. For instance, she mentioned having had the opportunity to choose between two companies, but she chose nxt agency purely on gut feeling. “I actually felt at home here right away,” she says. She experiences that feeling of coming home not only within the team but also in Amsterdam itself, a vibrant city where the open-minded atmosphere and the many cultures give her energy.
The supporting force of nxt agency
In her private life, Selin always takes the lead whenever something needs to be arranged, and that trait comes in handy in her work. At nxt, she takes the burden off the team completely and ensures everything is ready on time, from Friday lunches and team outings to administration, and an office environment that feels like a well-oiled machine where no one goes without. Because she handles everything, our PR managers can spend more time on clients.
In addition, Selin is busy organizing off-sites, client events, and team outings.
Her growth plans? At nxt agency, Selin doesn't just want to keep everything running behind the scenes; she also wants to take on a more substantive role. She will focus on managing our internal communications and overseeing the office budget to ensure our processes become even more streamlined and transparent.
