#3 Easytoys x Kesbeke

This joke started very early. A few weeks before April 1, posters hung throughout Amsterdam with the aaahh-gurk; a vibrating pickle. What started as an April 1 joke became a huge success in no time and was even shared several times on social media. Indeed, the idea was so well received that the creators announced on April 1 that they would actually bring the product to market. Real innovation or a double April Fool's joke?

#4 Holle Bolle Gijs with AI

Efteling's splendor, Holle Bolle Gijs, received a few days before national joke day this year technological update. According to the Efteling spokesperson, he would now use smart computer vision technology — a type of AI — to recognize who is in front of him and what exactly is being thrown away. He would then give personalized advice about healthy choices and waste separation; in other words, a waste bin that not only thanks you, but also educates you. A vision for the future or a pure nightmare?

#5 Pathé movies with Subway Surfers

Pathé announced that it was responding to the latest viewing trend: movies with a additional screen underneath where a Subway Surfers game is continuously playing. This would help offset Gen Z's declining attention span and make movie visits more attractive to young people. Whether it's a smart invention or a worrying development, let's just wait and see. One thing is certain: the reactions online were very enthusiastic.

#6 Become a closet yourself with Ikea

Protein powder in the taste of Swedish balls. The idea is simple: you combine the benefits of a protein shake with the familiar taste of your favorite IKEA meal. The poster asked: “Want to become a closet yourself?”, was a nod to the typical IKEA experience, and caused a lot of confusion and curiosity.

#7 Amsterdam Student Metro

One new metro line was announced especially for VU and UvA students, and it sounds almost too good to be true. Students can check in for free with their student ID, and there are even quiet areas to study during the ride. But that's not all: the energy for the subway is generated by exercise bikes in the subway. So students can literally contribute to their own energy supply while they travel to their lectures. It seems like a smart mix of sustainability and productivity; this could well be the future of public transport.

#8 Polarscents

What if you can relive your backpacking adventures from home? Polarsteps brought this idea to life with their own perfume line: Polar Scents. They themselves call them “scents that no one has asked for, but every traveler knows”. The line includes scents such as 'forever damp towel', 'bug battle' & 'beat up backpack'. Each scent takes you back to your most epic journeys.

#9 AFAS live length format

To improve visibility for all concertgoers, AFAS is introducing a live length layout at standing concerts. Shorter visitors will be at the front, while taller visitors will sit in the back. This way, there is a view of the stage for everyone, without hindrance.

#10 Snack vending machines in sportcity

FEBO and SportCity have joined forces and are bringing a snack machine full of protein croquettes to the gyms. So, after your intense workout, you can immediately pull a croquette out of the FEBO machine. So you'll never have to leave the gym on a hungry stomach again. It may not sound very healthy, but the occasional snack after training doesn't hurt, right?
